My name is James, and I live in a town called Hawick in the Scottish Borders with my wife, Carol and two young kids, Mark 8 and Kayleigh 4. The Borders is a beautiful place to live, with it's lovely rolling hills and little towns and village's. Many of my photographs are taken locally.

I have also taken many photographs in the Isle of Skye as it's a place I like to spend time. It has endless amounts of dramatic views just waiting to be captured on camera.

I have photographs of many other places in Scotland also. I could take pictures for the next hundred years and never run out of beautiful and inspiring locations.

My favorite time for taking photos is early in the morning, or late in the evening. Personally I think this is the best time to take photographs as I feel it has the best light of the day. I also love taking photos of water in its many forms.

All of my photographs have been taken since I had a climbing accident 8 years ago. I have been privileged enough to have climbed in Alaska, the French Alps, the Swiss Alps and countless challenging Scottish mountains, I have also climbed extensively in the Lake District as well, but my energy had to be channeled into a new passion, photography, after I paralyzed my left arm on Beinn Udlaidh on a climb called Peter Pan Direct (grade V). As any climber knows, you have to be 100% dedicated to your sport. Initially it was hard to find something in my life that challenged me as much as climbing did, but with photography I find I am challenged every time I take my camera out. It also gives me the excuse to go out into the mountains I loved climbing. Enjoying them in a different way.

Obviously with only having one functioning arm I find myself being challenged by the camera (and other equipment) every time I use them! I have had to find ingenious ways to use what is typically two handed gear! My wife and I had a walk over a local hill to a waterfall I wanted to photograph one day only to loose the shot when my camera fell off the tripod into the fast flowing river as I hadn't attached it properly! Well what could you do but laugh!! (and a great excuse to buy a new camera it was...!)

I am also an active member of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team. I enjoy greatly getting into the hills with the team, training and on rescues. I feel like I am giving something back after all the years of enjoyment I have had in the hills.
